Pittsburgh Penguins Asian Pacific Islander Hockey Shirt
I designed a special ticket package hockey shirt for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The hockey shirt was for the Asian Pacific Islander heritage game against the Florida Panthers.
I was inspired by the Chinese holiday (Chinese New Year) for this design, as it is the Year of the Horse, which is my zodiac sign. The horse is the 7th animal in the rotation of the zodiacs, following the snake. If you are the year of the horse, it can mean that you are confident, responsible, and intelligent. The clouds were traditionally stylized from the Shang and Zhou dynasties and are known in Chinese art, clothing, and architecture. For the logo design, in Chinese culture, the dragon is a sign of good luck and represents strength, protection, and brings good fortune. The flowers behind the penguin are called Plum Blossoms and are commonly seen on Asian clothing. The colors I chose were red, gold, and black. The red color symbolizes luck, happiness, and is widely used for many celebrations, and is also the national color of China. Gold symbolizes wealth and good fortune. Black represents power, stability, and wisdom. Black and gold are also the main colors that identify the Pittsburgh Penguins.
